Cookie Policy

Last updated: April 27, 2026

1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, remember your preferences, and provide information to website operators. IdeaSpark uses a minimal set of cookies necessary to operate the service and, with your consent, to improve it.

2. Cookies We Use

Strictly Necessary — Session Cookies

Always Active · Cannot be disabled

Provider: Supabase

Purpose: Maintains your logged-in session so you stay authenticated as you navigate IdeaSpark. Without these cookies, you would need to sign in on every page load.

Duration: Session (cleared when browser closes) or up to 7 days for persistent sessions.

Data stored: An encrypted session token — no personal data is stored in the cookie itself.

Analytics Cookies

Consent Required

Provider: PostHog

Purpose: Tracks product usage events (page views, feature interactions, session duration) to help us understand how users engage with IdeaSpark and where we can improve it. No data is sold or shared with advertisers.

Duration: Up to 12 months.

Activation: Analytics cookies are only activated after you click "Accept" on our cookie consent banner. If you decline, PostHog is never initialized and no analytics cookies are set.

Security / Bot Protection

Functional · Login Form Only

Provider: hCaptcha (Intuition Machines, Inc.)

Purpose: hCaptcha may set temporary cookies as part of its bot-detection process when you submit the login or signup form. These are used to verify that you are a human and are not related to tracking or advertising.

Duration: Session.

3. Cookies We Do Not Use

  • Advertising or retargeting cookies
  • Third-party tracking pixels
  • Social media tracking cookies
  • Any cookie that shares your data with ad networks

We do not sell cookie data or personal data derived from cookies to any third party.

4. Managing Your Cookie Preferences

Consent banner: When you first visit IdeaSpark, a cookie consent banner appears. Click "Accept" to enable analytics cookies or "Decline" to use IdeaSpark with strictly necessary cookies only. Your choice is saved in your browser's local storage under the key ideaspark:cookie_consent.

Changing your mind: To change your cookie preference, clear your browser's local storage for this site (developer tools → Application → Local Storage → delete the ideaspark:cookie_consent key) and reload the page — the consent banner will reappear.

Browser settings: You can configure your browser to block or delete cookies at any time. Note that disabling the Supabase session cookies will prevent you from staying logged in.

5. Local Storage

In addition to cookies, IdeaSpark uses your browser's local storage to store non-sensitive preference data, including:

  • ideaspark:cookie_consent — your cookie preference (accepted/declined)
  • ideaspark:draft_idea — your in-progress idea draft, so it's not lost if you navigate away
  • ideaspark:onboarding — temporary onboarding preferences during signup flow

Local storage data never leaves your browser; it is not transmitted to our servers. It can be cleared at any time by clearing your browser's local storage.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when we add or remove cookies or tracking technologies. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date. For material changes, we may show the consent banner again to re-confirm your preferences.
